Natural Resources
Our Natural Resource
Division is listed as "Qualified Consultants" for on-call
environmental services with several agencies, including:
-
Pima County Department of Transportation
and Flood Control District,
-
Pima County Wastewater Management
Department,
-
Pima County Development Services, and
-
Maricopa County.
Recent work has included Habitat Evaluations for federally protected species such as Cactus ferruginous pygmy-owl
(CFPO), lesser
long-nos ed
bats, and pima pineapple cactus (PPC).
The Harris Environmental team has conducted numerous
Habitat Evaluations for Pima County’s 55 Priority Vulnerable Species, and
numerous
intersection improvement projects have prompted Species-Specific Surveys
for wildlife such as the CFPO and plants such as the PPC.
Our team also is accustomed to working on environmental
studies in urban areas; urban projects have included:
-
Invasive Plant Species surveys for the Catalina
Highway Bike Lane project,
-
Native Plant Preservation Plan studies for
the Tanque Verde/Houghton sewer line,
-
Interim Habitat Mitigation Plan
for the Thornydale Road widening project, and
-
Section 7 Consultation and Biological
Assessment for the Green Valley Performing Arts Center.
We have also
been active in Jurisdictional Wash Delineations and we recently
conducted such a project along portions of Interstate 19.
Our team has an active research focus and
has been contracted by Pima County to conduct reviews of environmental
documents for the Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan and a Conservation
Review and Evaluation of an environmentally sensitive floodplain and
riparian area (Black Wash) for inclusion in a revised Floodplain
Management Plan.
We also have extensive experience in the western desert
of Arizona, having conducted longitudinal studies on the
Sonoran pronghorn in the Barry M. Goldwater Range. Our experience with military installations
has provided us with an advantage in providing compliance services for
our local clients designing projects with federal regulatory triggers.
Luke Air Force Base sponsored these studies for several years
and found our team to be uniquely helpful in the identification and
analysis of the pronghorn population.
