Interdivisional Work
The
Natural Resources and Cultural Resources
divisions frequently work together on projects that contain
multi-disciplinary compliance components.
One of our more demanding
contracts has been with Brown and Caldwell, a global corporation charged
with remediation of a Superfund site in northern Arizona. Our role has
been to provide all of the natural and cultural resource studies
required to facilitate the proposed action. The project area contains
hazardous materials and is located on a military installation, thus
introducing myriad complexities to the process and unexpected variables
to the fieldwork. Our team has been working with unexploded ordinance
technicians and a large group of stakeholders to complete the requisite
environmental studies in accordance with the Resource Conservation and
Recovery Act (RCRA) and the Comprehensive Environmental Response,
Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) federal
legislation. Our work has included:
-
Habitat evaluations,
-
Archaeological
surveys,
-
Stakeholder
meetings,
-
Coordination and consultation with the
State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO)
and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and
-
Managing the number of details that revolve around
planning a remedial project that spans multiple years and includes
numerous specialists and subconsultants.
Currently, we are providing cultural and
natural resources services in support of the preparation of an
Environmental Impact Statement for runway expansion at the Tucson
International Airport. This work includes cultural resources
surveys, native plant surveys, jurisdictional water delineations, and
hazardous material assessments.
