National Register of Historic Places Nomination
Client: Pima County, Arizona
Project Name: Agua Caliente Ranch and Empirita Ranch, Arizona
Period of Performance: 2003
Recording and protecting historic sites is very important for preserving the cultural heritage of our society. For this project, Harris Environmental Group conducted surveys for two historic sites in Pima County. Agua Caliente was a pioneering cattle ranch in continuous operation since 1540, with the period of significance for Register Nomination 1875 – 1959. We surveyed the 100-acre property and determined that 27 structures contributed to the ranch’s nomination. The cattle ranch also contained alfalfa fields and orchards. Nearby Empirita Ranch was a cattle ranch operating 1903-1957. We surveyed the 366-acre property and determined that 28 structures contributed to the ranch’s nomination to the Register. We are proud to have helped our client, Pima County, preserve these important historical sites so that they can provide cultural and historical education for generations to come.
